MacBook Air and Web Accessibility · Tuesday January 15, 2008

In a move that surprised no one, Apple Inc. released its ultra-portable notebook, MacBook Air. I’m not going to talk about its many features or the hype surrounding this product, but instead, I want to point out one important feature for web developers: multi-touch.

Why would we care about multi-touch? Because it could simplify text resizing across browsers. Watch the demo and you’ll see for yourself.

Now, I’m not absolutely certain this works in all browsers for the Mac, since the demo was done using Safari, but if this is a computer-wide function and not browser-specific, we can only hope for more manufacturers to adopt this feature. There may be a day when people will stop putting incremental “A“s in the headers of their web sites and Roger Johansson won’t have to educate his users on how to use their browsers!
